Project Personnel

Balu Iyer - Asia Program Director

Balu moved to the Bay Area from India in 1998, and completed a Masters in Public Policy at UC Berkeley. Prior to coming to the U.S., Balu worked for 6 years on poverty eradication programs with ActionAid India. Before that, he worked as a Program Organizer with the Aga Khan Rural Support Program. Balu also has a Masters in Rural Management from the Institute of Rural Management in Anand, India.

Hosneara Ahmed - Coordinator

After completing a Masters in History and training as a lawyer, Hosneara began working in community development in 1986. In 1991, she started SATU which to date has provided micro-loans to start small businesses, education and leadership training for more than 15,000 poor women in the Tangail area. SATU stresses people-oriented, sustainable development with a bottom-up or grassroots approach.
