Project Personnel

Emma Jane Hague - Weaving Project Director

Emma is British and first came to Peru to work on the weaving project for CATCCO in 2008. With a background in anthropology, human rights and fair trade, as well as a passion for textiles, she was easily persuaded to return and manage the project when it was started anew as Awamaki. Emma is fluent in English and Spanish and aims to introduce Awamaki textiles to a wider international audience.

Miguel Galdo Espinoza - President/ Community Liasion Officer

Miguel was born in Ollantaytambo in 1975. He has studied and worked in tourism in the Cusco region for 15 years, as a guide on the Inca Trail and in the district of Ollantaytambo. Miguel continues to coordinate and lead tours for student groups from foreign schools and institutes, as well as international organizations such as National Geographic. Miguel also works locally as a drama teacher.

Annie Millican - Product Development Intern

Annie has worked in the field of textile and apparel design, fair-trade, and sustainable development, and works with Awamaki to explore new product development opportunities that increase market access to rural Quechua weaving communities. Annie leads Awamaki Lab, a design mentorship program that fosters cross-cultural collaboration between fashion students and indigenous weavers.
