This project seeks to secure the children's right of say through children's parliament that will enable them to grow up as responsible citizens who are aware of their rights, their influence and their responsibility within their schools and communities. It will strengthen their ability to participate in decision making processes which will lead to improved relationships between the school administration, teachers and the students through creating a platform of dialogue and learning of issues.
Apart from education, schools should also be a place where children talk and express themselves freely, but in many cases, and because of many reasons, teachers and school administrations lack time, skills, interest to listen to children or giving attention to their problems, ideas or suggestions. This has led to; drop-out cases increasing, bullying and strikes that have led to destruction of school property and deaths. This project will be addressing more than 8000 children in 20 schools.
Children need to have a voice within the school environment and express their views and issues.Through the formation of Children's Parliament within the school structures, it will enable children to have space to express their problems and to suggest possible solutions, participate in decision making processes, which will lead to better improved relationships between the school administration, teachers and the students through creating a platform of dialogue and learning on issues.
The project will increase children's voices where their opinions, ideas and wishes are listened to in 20 schools both in rural and urban settings. This will reduce the rate of drop-outs in these schools and ensure students grow as responsible citizens who are aware of their rights, their influence and their responsibilities within their schools and respective communities where their dignity is respected.
