This project brings together young Jews and Palestinians, often for their first time, for a 3-day encounter.
In Israel, young people grow up with a historical and political conflict that greatly impacts their lives. Through the media, they are often taught to distrust and disregard the other side. This project brings 60 high-school students (half Palestinian, half Jewish) together for a 3-day encounter. Instead of asking participants to put away their differences and attempt to find a common ground to get along, the School for Peace method calls for discussion of stereotypes and the reasons behind them
The project includes a preliminary day of uni-national activity in each school, a 3-day encounter workshop at Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam and a follow-up meeting with participants in their schools.
This project impacts the participants' attitude towards the other and the conflict creating a domino effect in their community. Many participants have taken action to advance peace and dialogue after participating in the encounter & continue to do so
