"Providing Functional Literacy to women in India (1784)" Date: 07.04.2011
Quarterly Progress Report ending March, 2011.
“VIRMANI TRUST IS WORKING FOR A LIFE OF DIGINITY AND SELF RELIANCE FOR THE DISADVANTAGED.”
There can be no lasting peace or social development without education. This is the bedrock on which DVET has built its priority programme to provide education for all throughout life. In this context, the Organization’s twin focus is to train the teachers/ community members who are central to the education system and to improve education's quality and relevance which will go a long way to reduce drop outs and ensure retention.
DVET has consistently supported the need for researching and promoting literacy projects, programmes and campaigns with a developmental aim, in the context of its commitment to life long education. The commitment of DVET to adult learning and the leading role it has played in the promotion of adult education has been in clear evidence over the last Six years. In April, 2010 marked a turning point for adult learning and for the role expected to be played by DVET in this fast growing field. It demonstrated the extent to which adult education has become the key to the future. The new concept of adult education presents a challenge to existing practices because it calls for effective networking within the formal and non-formal systems, and for innovation, creativity and flexibility. Adult literacy, broadly conceived as the basic knowledge and skills needed by all in a rapid changing world, is a fundamental right. Literacy is also a catalyst for participation in social, cultural, political and economic activities, and for learning throughout life.
We have organized Annual function program and Hon’able Mr. Sudarshan Agarwal former Governor of the States of Uttarakhand and Sikkim was the chief guest of the function. About 1000 beneficiaries and other guests attended the function. Some beneficiaries gave their performance on the stage narrating how they are benefited from this Adult literacy & vocational training programme and thanked the management for opening adult literacy centers in their areas, other wise they would have not been literate. DVET was awarded Excellence award for the year 2010-11 by North Delhi Power Limited. DVET has developed four modules for CBFL programme which are Hindi, Arithmetic’s and their teaching methods by using computers. We have setup a library in each center for the women, who have completed their course. We have a in house resource person (Dheerendra Sharma) to deliver the cluster training program on specific issues related to subject hard spots, women and girls counseling, community sensitization & other issues’ was organized in our adult literacy/ vocational training centers.
Celebration: We celebrated all the festivals at our learning centers. During the period we celebrated In New Year 2011,Loharhi(13, Jan.),Makarsankranti ,Indian Republic day ( 26th January ) Sivaratri, Holi , world women’s and Girl child day.
Case Study: Manju, 23 year old girl. Who was an illiterate before joining the centre, can now write her name, signature, operate her bank account and carry out other bank transactions. She has been a beneficiary of DVET adult literacy centre & vocational training centre in the year of 2010. After the completion of our course, Manju setup a Tailoring shop at Khoda colony, Ghaziabad (U.P.). In few months, her business started to flourish and she decided to setting up another trade, with more varieties of tailoring at the same place. Transformation of low profile rural women into a successful had taken leap. However, it happened only due to the determination of women like Manju and support they receive from their family members. Now Manju is earning a net monthly income of Rs. 5000-6000/ -pm. She has enhanced the family prestige in the community.
We have received only Rs.31, 697/- as donation through global giving during the period from 01/04/2010 to 31/3/2011
I personally thank you for your continued support which has helped us to carry forward this programme to help the women to evolve further. We simply could not have made such a difference without you. Any contribution however small is very much appreciated.
We would also like to be in tune with larger outreach efforts so that we become a part of global charitable funding initiatives and plug in mainline organization that manage these initiatives from across the world. We are looking for contribution for all these efforts and would be grateful for your support to enable us to carry them forward. We express our gratitude to the donors for making change in the society.
We envisioned expanding our centers, so that illiteracy from India is eradicated.
Please seethe attachments.
We thank you for your cooperation & donation.
With Regards-
