This project is an initiative to save girl children through mass awareness campaign against sex discrimination in Balasore district. At present the sex ratio is 947:1000. Maximum ultrasound clinics are involved in the bad practice of sex identification and earning money. The situation is very serious. Through this project ARM will motivate the couples, health providers, general public to understand the long term effect of the issue on our society. The duration of the project is one year.
Sex ratio in India is down to 927 from 945 in the previous census.
Annually there are about 5 million cases of sex selection in the country and we are still counting.
Sex ration in the state of Orissa has drastically fallen from 1991 to 2001.
In Balasore District the sex ratio tumbled from 1991 to 2001.
Again as per current trend it is going down to 952 particularly in urban and sub urban area the sex ratio is below 1000.
The project will solve the problem through Poster Campaigning, Development and information Dissemination of Information Education Communication materials,organization of district/Block & Gram Panchayat level awareness meeting, workshop with media people and capacity building of NGOs .
Increase in understanding levels of community, Civil Society, Medical Professionals about the issues of Female Foeticide and PNDT act
Increase in publication of girl child related issues in newspapers and coverage in Electronic media.
Stringent actions against the violators of PNDT Act.
Increase in Female Sex Ratio in targeted areas.
Strengthening of NGOs towards addressing the issues of Female Foeticide.
