The Critical Endangered Rainbow Frogs (IUCN) is mostly found in the periphery of Isalo where is actually desert due to bush fire and agriculture use. Also, the third Save the Frogs event 2014 will target 90 students of the primary school of Andriamanero. An Eco-Education will be organized for to involve children on environment protection. It consists on reforestation and establishment of bio-green gardener which help us to show the best practice to conciliate human livelihood and environment.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Lack of eco-education increases the environment degradation in Isalo. Even the periphery of the park becomes desert due to an increasing bush fire and agriculture use. Habitat of many species is destroyed including those of Critically Endangered endemic Rainbow frogs. The prolonged drought due to environment degradation threats to food insecurity which affect children. Apart of plantation of 180 seedlings, this project will help 90 students of Andriamanero to have a green gardener.
How will this project solve this problem?
This project has a goal to involve children in environment protection. Student are trained to reforestation in order to restore the habitat not only of frogs species but for whole biodiversity of the park. They are also trained on the establishment of green gardner which respect our environment by using bio-fertilizer and bio-pesticide.
Potential Long Term Impact
This eco-education will raise children awarness on the necessity of environment protection and the benefits of biodiversity conservation. The reforestation will be a future habitat of many species and relevant training will help them to replicate it for their own purpose. The green gardner will help 90 students to establish a school canteen and training on this activity will allow them to help their family and to establish their own vegetableaming.
