Summary
Kitovu Mobile plans to help 4,757 HIV Cancer patients with food, beddings, and facilitating 200 community volunteers with bicycles to reach out patients in Masaka and Rakai districts.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Kitovu Mobile can no longer adequately support its HIV Cancer patients in Masaka due to high inflation, leading to malnutrition, inadequate beddings, poor drug adherence and early death. Patients are spread 10-15 Kms. The nurse to patient ratio is 1: 38. This takes 6 months for nurses to visit the clients at home regularly. Many patients fail on treatment, the cost of care increases. Providing food items, beddings, and facilitating Community Volunteers with bicycles combats the situation
How will this project solve this problem?
Hold participatory community planning meetings, buy and distribute food items, beddings, bicycles, patient follow up, reporting, transporting weak patients, taking medicines to patients, hold healthy talks.
Potential Long Term Impact
The project will improve the quality of life and prolong the life span of 4750 HIV Cancer patients through improved nutrition, follow up visits by health officers and community volunteers, and psychosocial support. Building an institution that will sustain and support the new generation of HIV Cancer patients even if Kitovu Mobile was to close
Ability to return to their former works hence improved economic levels.
Project Message
“You are my Heroes; I had been deserted by my family members to die in severe pain and you came to my rescue’’. One of the HIV Cancer clients lamented.
