Your support is needed to install and launch community water purification systems in 3 villages, Pochampalli, Katrapalli and Kothapalligori, in India to respond to an urgent need for safe water.
Children are acutely affected by the lack of access to clean drinking water. In India, 1.8 million children die before the age of 5 each year, many related to water-borne illnesses. More than 100 million people in the country-mostly in rural, poor areas-are in need of safe water. Without this, already overburdened communities bear the added stress of healthcare costs, loss of school days and reduced time for income-generating activity. This 3-village project is part of a large-scale impact plan.
We work with underserved villages to design and implement locally sustainable water purification systems. Local operators are trained; loans assist community ownership; and families learn proper hygiene to maintain the integrity of the water.
Access to clean water for 8,000 people in 3 low-income villages will eliminate rampant water-borne disease, allowing time and energy for productive activities. Children return to school; women gain time for livelihoods; and communities grow stronger.
