Safe Passage: Help 150 Girls Survive Trafficking

Roma girls living on the streets of former Yugoslavia often do not have access to education, medicine, or a safe place to live. They are easy prey for traffickers and sex tourists. FAIR Fund's team finds approximately 50 such girls a year and offers them a chance to join our program to lead a safe life.
A place of exploitation for homeless girls
The FAIR Fund team found a few homeless and trafficked Roma girls in this abandoned house in Serbia in 2009. The smell of trash, broken toys, and dangerous glass were overwhelming. Without immediate help, these girls would have been left to fend for themselves, surrounded by traffickers and their customers.
A Painting of Peace by a teen girl
Recently a teen girl in FAIR Fund's life skills and art therapy program, JewelGirls, painted this painting for the FAIR Fund staff. She used part of the money she earned from making and selling her own jewelry and bought an airbrush. The staff at FAIR Fund was deeply moved. When asked about the painting, this young girl said that she feels peaceful in FAIR Fund's program... so she painted a face of peace!

Each week, many of FAIR Fund's girls in our programs come together to create their own jewelry while learning value financial literacy skills. After creating jewelry with us each week, we arrange sales parties to help the girls learn to sell their jewelry. In this photo, you see the hands of our D.C. clients as they had fun making new designs with New York based designer, Bonnie Young.
