Blue Planet Network brings the spotlight on communities worldwide who bear the disproportionate burden of the safe drinking water crisis. Blue Planet Network exponentially increases the impact of safe drinking water and sanitation programs for people around the world, enabling those in need with health and opportunity for education and economic prosperity - especially for the girls and women who spend their days lugging water for their families.
Unsafe drinking water is the world's #1 cause of disease & death. It's unconscionable that impure water kills over 2 million people each year - 90% children under five. Half the world's hospital beds are filled with people with water-born diseases. The WHO/UNICEF survey of 45 developing countries states that women & children are responsible for water collection in 76% of households. In a single day women can spend over 200 billion collective hours fetching water.
Blue Planet Network is an award-winning nonprofit with a mission to exponentially increase the impact of safe drinking water programs for people around the world. Acting as an online engine for the water sector in 25 countries, Blue Planet Network connects WASH funders, organizations and grass-roots communities to improve planning, monitoring, and analysis of sustainable safe drinking water and sanitation programs.
Sustainable safe drinking water and sanitation are the most important things a community can create to build better lives. The UN Development Program estimates that for every $1 invested in water and sanitation solutions there is a return of up to $9 in increased productivity. Women will be freed up to live more productive and prosperous lives through leadership and business development, instead of lugging water for miles or visiting the health clinic several times per week when ill.
Building the capacity of women to be able to lead and implement viable water and sanitation solutions...provides just the opportunity for women to become self-reliant & uplift themselves from poverty
