The village of Muteff presently has limited access to clean drinking water, especially during the dry season. Community members must trek to a stream in order to collect their drinking water-- thus leaving many to drinking dirty water. Your donation will bring this community water by creating an additional spring catchment, expanding the currently existing infrastructure and by providing training to the community to help ensure sustainable management.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The 4500 people of Muteff presently have limited access to clean drinking water. The village is blessed with several excellent spring sources-- but the present infrastructure provides insufficient water, especially during the dry season. This forces villages, most of the time women and children, to trek to a stream in order to fetch their drinking water.
How will this project solve this problem?
This project will bring the materials to expand Muteff's pipe-borne water infrastructure. First the village will complete a 3-week water management training which will help to both empower community members and also ensure sustainable water management practices in the future. Then the water infrastructure will be fixed- and expanded- an additional spring catchment will be added, along with 10 miles of pipes and 10 additional stand-taps.
Potential Long Term Impact
This project will have a massive positive impact on Muteff. First it will deliver safe and clean drinking water for an additional 1000 community members, drastically reducing the prevalence of water-borne diseases. Secondly, having standpipes in the community will reduce the time it takes women and children to collect-- thus freeing time for other activities. And lastly, the 3-week water management training not only empowers and engages the community but ensures sustainability.
