IDE has been promoting the Ceramic Water Purifier (CWP) as an affordable household water filtration option for rural Cambodia since 2001. The benefits in health and economics have been significant through the provision of local production and distribution of the CWP.

Field studies by UNICEF and IDE have shown that the CWP, which costs less than $10, reduces the incidence of diarrhea by 46%, lightens women's workloads by 22 hours per month, and leads to expense savings of $1 to $2 per month.

Since Jan 2006, more than 40,000 households have been reached. IDE continues to facilitate distribution systems; prepare marketing plans; improve production processes; reduce costs; and strengthen distribution networks.
