Many deaths every year caused by acute lower respiratory infections, the leading causes of disease and mortality which are the offspring of indoor pollution and lung congestion caused by the use of traditional stoves emitting smoke. A majority of villagers usually cook on the earthen stove or a three brick earthen burner which over a period of time is responsible for lung disease and blurred vision.
A hut enveloped in smoke and women trying to put up with burning eyes is a common sight in village homes. The eye-sight of hundreds of women is being affected besides causing respiratory problems to them due to inhaling of smoke. On the environmental front, there is a massive consumption of firewood and carbon emissions.

The smokeless stove technology being promoted by AHD for the villages of U/c Mubarakpur Jecobabad District. The villagers using less firewood, besides having salutary effect on their health and eyesight. More importantly, the time saved can be utilized by them towards increasing their economic gains. The introduction of smokeless stove had contributed to conservation of firewood, hygienic cooking atmosphere, reduction in health hazards, and cooking time and diffused deforestation.
EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN
The foremost achievement of the AHD’s stove dissemination program has been its impact on the lives of several women in U/c Mubarkpur of Jecobabad district . At one level AHD has created rural women energy entrepreneurs, giving these women a new lease of life. At another, it has made available effective smokeless stoves which reduce the drudgery that rural women face during their daily cooking. The smokeless stove initiative adopted a strategy that involved women in all aspects of dissemination.
AHD provides training to rural women to construct their own smokeless stoves. AHD field team conducts trainings for 15 villages in March 2013 of U/c Mubarkpur.
