(VER VERSION EN ESPAÑOL ABAJO)

On Saturday, October 1 FUNDOWN CARIBE launched  the 2011-2012 Down Syndrome Awareness Campaign.

With the slogan: “Do you see me different? I see you different too. That makes us equal”, 1000 flyers with the image of Carlos and Yazlinmar, 2 kids with Down Syndrome, were distributed in a very popular shopping mall of Barranquilla. On the back of the flyer, 6 rights of the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities are illustrated, making an invitation to help them exercise their rights.

Equality, Education, Health, Respect, Right to Life, Autonomy are some of the rights that Colombia, as 105 other countries, has ratified. These rights are the same as any other person has.

400 bracelets were also distributed among the visitors that gathered to see our dance group (dressed with tshirts that had our slogan) and the exhibition of their crafts that were made in the Arts and Crafts Program.

The next step in our Campaign will be the advertising billboards!!!

In the extent that our society is aware of the rights of persons with Down Syndrome, there will be less discrimination and segregation.
