LRFF developed this beautiful project almost a year ago. There are several different landowners wanting to participate with portions of their farms or in the case of Juan Carlos restoring forest to all of his property replacing old cattle pastures with native forest.
Two of the properties are in Palenque Rio Sol within the Maleku Reserve and owned by Maleku tribal members. All of the other properties are just east of the Maleku in Katira.
The most amazing part of this project is the pure intention expressed by all of the participants. After cattle farming and agricultural activities on their properties they all understand the importance of the forests that were lost not so long ago, in the 1960’s. Especially in the case of the Arias family who want out of the cattle business and are anxious to return their 7+ hectares to native forest once again. What an amazing opportunity for everyone, the wildlife waiting to return and the ability to sequester and store approximately 480 metric tonnes of CO2 annually from our Earth’s atmosphere.
Let’s get planting this superb project in 2013! Thank you for your generous donations thus far, without you we wouldn’t be able to accomplish it.
Happy holidays and see you all in 2013.
