On September 19, 2012 a camp for screening Diabetic and Cataract patients was held at Sadullahpur Upo-Zilla which is about 15 km from Gaibandha town. Before holding the camp, wide publicity was given so that more and more people attend the camp.

An Awareness Program on Diabetic as well as on Eye Care was held at the Upo-Zilla Head Quarter on September 09, 2012. Speakers consisted of Diabetic Specialists, Eye Specialists and Prominent Social Workers. About 4000 people attended the Program.

About 500 people attended the Cataract Screening Camp held on September 19. Twenty five were detected having cataracts. These patients attended our hospital on September 24, 2012. Necessary tests were conducted. Cataract operations were conducted on September 25, 2012 by a team consisted of an Ophthalmic Surgeon, an Ophthalmic Consultant, an Eye Specialist and two Nurses. The new Operation Microscope purchased in 2010 was used for cataract surgery.

Starting from 8:00 AM the operation continued till 3:00 PM. The patients took rest for about three hours. They were allowed to go home after post operation check up.

Story of Bulbul:

Bulbul who is 40 years old is a poor day laborer. He developed cataract in both of his eyes long ago. He was almost blind. He could not manage sufficient funds for surgery of his eyes. He lives about 50 km from Karmirhath hospital. About few months ago, Bulbul came to know that Karmirhath hospital at Gaibandha performs cataract operations on poor patients free of charge. He came to the hospital in August this year and got his right eye operated for cataract. Later on September 25, 2012, cataract operation was performed on his left eye. Bulbul is now very happy that he can see with both of his eyes. He is very grateful to GlobalGiving for providing funds for his operations.
