This project will support 140 children between the ages of 8 and 15 currently living on the streets to resettle with their families and communities, and help them go back to school by August 2014. The project will also build the socioeconomic support for the households using the Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLA) and entrepreneurship skills development approach to address their own needs by August 2014.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Around 5,000 children between the ages of 7 and 20 are living on the streets of Kampala. Many of these children are orphaned, abandoned and abused. Some have run away from their homes as a result of peer influence and others due to domestic violence. They could live a better life.
How will this project solve this problem?
The need for customized interventions Love of the child will ensure that the number of street children is reduced, resettled back to their families & also be empowered with education skills that will transform them,build trust, an understanding of each child's circumstances,and they feel valued, gain confidence, accept support in equipping themselves with the social & educational tools required.
Potential Long Term Impact
The project will facilitate access to educate for 140 former street children and will also build socioeconomic of the households using the Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLA) and entrepreneurship skills development approach to address their own needs.
