Provide Relief for Syrian Refugees

Over 2.4 million Syrians have fled the civil war in their country for the relative safety of neighboring countries. The flow of refugees into camps and host communities continues to swell - far beyond initial expectations - and strain limited resources in the region. Mercy Corps is helping more than 800,000 refugees and community members in Jordan and Lebanon by providing essentials like clothing and blankets, digging wells and building safe places for children to play and be kids.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Syria's prolonged and increasingly violent civil conflict has forced more than 2 million Syrians to flee to neighboring countries, displaced another 6.5 million people internally, and has created a desperate humanitarian crisis throughout the region.

How will this project solve this problem?

Mercy Corps is providing immediate emergency relief - including food, water, warm clothes, and shelter - to Syrian families who've fled to neighboring countries. We are also creating stronger economies and families by providing job and technical training to Iraqi refugees and vulnerable Syrian youth.

Potential Long Term Impact

Mercy Corps has been digging wells to provide water to refugees and has been renovating municipal water systems to support host communities long-term. We're also building playgrounds and sports fields at camps so that kids can have a safe space to play; we're providing books and school supplies so that refugee children can continue their education while displaced; and we're setting up programs that are helping children recover from their emotional trauma and focus on the future.
