A child is getting an education

Alok thanks you for sending him to school
Alok thanks you for sending him to school

Dear friend,

Over the past few months, 76 women and 89 children residing in Mumbai's red-light districts were helped. Your gift is making a tremendous difference in the lives of women and children trapped in a life of sexual slavery.

The women and children have benefited from counseling, pre schools, remedial classes, medical interventions, feeding programs, fun clubs, and weekly gatherings.

Your gift has helped many children in the red-light districts by giving them a free pre-school education and a nutritious meal every day. Children like Alok are doing so well because of your gift.

Alok's mother was a victim of the sex trade in Mumbai. She is a sex worker, so her son is forced to live in the dangerous and dirty brothels. Alok is a talkative and active 5-year-old boy. He used to roam the streets with nothing to do. After encouraging Alok's mother to put Alok in our pre-school program (called a balwadi in Hindi), he is doing so much better. Alok is also getting a nutritious meal every day. He is very smart in his studies and his behavior has improved greatly. Alok enjoys participating in special school activities and events.

Seeing the changes in Alok, his mother enrolled his younger brother in the balwadi (pre-school program) too and is very happy with the development of both her children.

Thank you so much for serving children living in the red-light districts. Your gift truly makes a difference and gives hope to children who grow up in such a dark and broken place.

Sincerely,

Dear friend,

This past quarter, 68 trafficked women and 81 children residing in Mumbai’s red light districts have been helped. Your gift is making a tremendous difference in the lives of women and children trapped in prostitution.

The women and children have benefited from counseling, pre-primary and remedial classes, medical interventions, feeding programs, fun clubs, and weekly gatherings.

Your gift has helped many children and one of the most important things it provides is a safe home far from the red-light districts. Children like Ravina now have promising futures ahead of them because of your gift.

Ravina's mother was a victim of the sex trade in Mumbai. After counseling, Ravina's mother was able to see the advantages of the safe house and agreed to send her daughter, Ravina, to live there.

Ravina is a bright and vibrant child. She is also very sharp and is good in academics. She has a hunger for learning more and enjoys her school. Although she is in first grade, she can read and write much better than the other kids her age. Ravina is living a better and safer place because of you. Thank you so much.

Education gives children in the red-light districts brighter futures

Rimpa has a brighter future because of you
Rimpa has a brighter future because of you

Dear friend,

Education is so important for every child. Since the children of commercial sex workers do not have access to proper education, the schools that we established in the red-light districts are a big blessing for them. In the past quarter, about 90 children were able to receive an education in the pre-schools or local primary schools.

The children receive extra academic assistance for any of their classes. Many have shown great improvements in their grades after getting this extra help.

Your gift has helped many children and one of the most important things it provides is a safe home far from the red-light districts. Children like Rimpa now have promising futures ahead of them because of your gift.

She used to watch pimps beat her mother regularly. Rimpa felt so sad living in Mumbai’s red light districts. It was a very dangerous place. The abuse—and exploitation—Rimpa constantly witnessed was terrible. When her mother was trafficked into the sex trade, seven-year old Rimpa became an innocent victim of the vile sex industry in India.

But now Rimpa is living in a better place. “I feel so safe at the safe house,” says Rimpa, who receives food, shelter and a quality education every day. She knows how to read, write, and speak in English. She’s very grateful she gets to live in a safe place. Thank you for helping children stuck in the sex trade!

Special Giving Tuesday opportunity! You can DOUBLE your impact for poor children in India today! Starting at 12pm EST, Microsoft will match your gift when you Help an orphan in India receive an education. Please consider giving a gift to another Global Giving project that will lift children out of poverty. You will provide an opportunity for a child to go to school and succeed. You will have DOUBLE the impact when you give right now. Matching funds run out quickly so give as soon as you can.

Sincerely,

Living a healthier and better life

Women learn about health, nutrition, and hygiene
Women learn about health, nutrition, and hygiene

This past quarter, 90 trafficked women and 79 children residing in Mumbai’s red light districts have been helped.

The women and children have benefited from counseling, pre-primary classes, and medical interventions. Many women and their children are very susceptible to contracting diseases like HIV/AIDS and other STDs. Your support provides services like medical care and helps women and children get tested to receive any necessary medications or treatment. (In the photo above, women are learning about good nutrition).

Shabana is a woman who has been helped because of people like you. Shabana got pulled into the sex trade at the age of 13. She ran away from home because she could no longer tolerate the abuse by her family. But she didn't realize she would end up in a far worse living situation. Shabana started working in the red-light districts and soon contracted HIV.

When she gave birth to her daughter, Ayesha, the baby also contracted the disease. Shabana was not taking any medicine for the HIV disease and she became very weak. She gave up on life and couldn't care for her baby. However, after getting some counseling, Shabana's attitude started to change.

She started taking the medication to help her body feel better. Her daughter was also taken care of. Today, Shabana's health is impoved and she is living in a better place for her and her child. She has made a lot of progress and is looking for a new and different job to support her and her daughter.

Thank you again for your gift. Because of your support, women like Shabana can find hope and healing by being in a safe house. To help more children and women in Mumbai's red light districts, you can give another gift today! You will be changing their lives forever by providing them with a safe place to live.

The women and children have benefited from counseling, pre-primary and remedial classes, medical interventions, feeding programs, fun clubs, and weekly gatherings.

Khushi is one of the girls who is so grateful for your gift. Khushi was constantly surrounded by violence and abuse in the red-light districts. Her mom is a sex worker and she realized Khushi needed a safer place to live.

Fortunately, Khushi is now safe and is living in a better place. Your gift is providing food, clothing, counseling, and an education. Khushi enjoys activities like arts and crafts, sports and particularly looks forward to singing and dancing!

Thank you again for your gift. Because of your support, Khushi and other children like her have a safe home where she can live, learn and grow.

To help more children and women in Mumbai's red light districts, you can give another gift today! You will be changing their lives forever by providing them with a safe place to live.
