While New Beginnings Cat Rescue has cats and kittens in all the usual colors of fur ready for adoption, the number of cats with black fur has increased, for the simple reason that black cats are the least adoptable of all their beautiful colors and patterns, regardless of personality. Sadly black beauties are often overlooked because people think they are scary, unlucky or just plain boring. Below is the background on some of our overlooked black beauties.
We have 2 adorable six month old brothers named Jeepers and Creepers. They were pulled from a local kill shelter, along with 5 others who have already been adopted. Notably, the 5 others that have been adopted are not black. Jeepers and Creepers are very sweet and playful, and black.
Another kitty named Spencer, is a big boy weighing about 15 lbs. He had been surrendered to a local kill shelter and rescued by NBCR. Spencer is reserved and may need to be adopted by a family who is also reserved and can appreciate this characteristic. Unfortunately Spencer has 2 strikes against him – he is shy and black.
Cleo, a beautiful girl, was rescued from a local kill shelter with her kittens. All of her babies have been adopted but Cleo is still waiting for her forever family. She would make a wonderful companion for a family in which she is the only cat. Although Cleo loves people and is extremely playful, she has 2 strikes against her – she does not like other cats and she is black.
Zaid and Nuri are brothers, they were adopted last year but returned 5 months ago as their family moved without them. These 2 boys have bonded so deeply, that they will be happiest if adopted together. Very sweet and playful. It is doubly difficult to adopt 2 black cats together.
Summer was rescued from a local kill shelter with her 3 kittens and, although her babies have all been adopted, Summer is still waiting for her forever home. She is reserved and sweet and will make an excellent companion. Unfortunately Summer has 2 strikes against her – she is shy and black.
Smoke is a 3 year old precious cat who was brought to a local veterinarian to be euthanized, simply because he was no longer wanted. Thankfully, the clinic called NBCR. Smoke does have a unique characteristic - he loves running water, so much so that he puts his head under the faucet. So cute.
Delilah, another beautiful cat, had been adopted 4 years ago and returned to us last year. Her owner said she had litter box issues and didn’t get along with her housemates. After being seen by our veterinarian and treated for a medical issue, she is now doing great. She does like other cats, has no litter box issues and in fact, she is quite fastidious.
Last but not least is Jane; abandoned inside PetSmart and had not been noticed for 2-3 weeks. When they finally caught her, she was very thin. Jane is a little shy but learning to trust.
Each cat has a story to be told. We are their voice. Thank you for reading our project report and thank you for donating to the cause of these beautiful animals.
