Dear RRHS Supporters,
We are pleased to be able to share the stories and progress of Renzori Rural Health Services (RRHS) work. It is exciting because RRHS is one of our first partners in the Kasese Uganda region and one of the success stories. The Foundation for Community Development and Empowerment (FCDE) supports local grassroot organizations like RRHS with training, resources, grants and direct personal support.
Renzori Rural Health Services (RRHS) is a Community Based Organization (CBO) started in 2005 dedicated to providing health care and health related services to people in rural areas of the Rwenzori Mountains. RRHS works to raise local living standards by extending health care services that are accessible to the community.
The ultimate goal is to reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality rates, reduce congestion at existing health centres, and extend services to the rural underserved people of the area. The Kasese District status report 2007 indicates bed ratio in the District to be1 bed to 963 patients. The project will employ a Medical Doctor, a Nurse and a Midwife. It will offer both antenatal and post natal services to mothers and their infants, and curative services for the larger community. It will empower 20 young mothers to reach out to other women with information on Safe Mother hood, safe water chain, making Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS), proper nutrition and prevention and management of HIV/AIDS.
RRHS has initiated construction of a health center and health lab. They are now working to raise funds to complete the construction and equip the facility. Most recently they received a grant from the Norwegian Council to continue work on the physical infrastructure of the Health Center. You can learn more about RRHS through the link above.
RRHS has been an active part of FCDE's workshop series for over a year and recently completed another two-day training on Monitoring and Evaluation related to their project work. This continuing involvement has allowed RRHS to become more efficient in its work to meet health and clean water needs of the local community.
I hope these stories and this information inspires you.
Thank you – FCDE staff and board
