The project will help children to be removed from the streets of Lusaka and they will be placed in our centre so that they can be counseled, rehabilitated, reformed. The children's homes will be traced and children will be taken back home or also referred to permanent orphanages if no home is found.Fountain of Hope is a project for children working and living on the streets. The purpose of this project is to help children become responsible citizens after the programmes.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The number of children living on the streets of Lusaka Zambia has become very rife in the recent past. These children resort to going on the streets due to varies reasons, some of them being, poverty,Child abuse, the death of parents because of HIV/AIDS,peer pressure and due to the separation of parents. Most of these children are at risk of becoming hard core thieves, being infected with HIV/AIDS,become drug addicts.Fountain of Hope will help these children by providing shelter and counseling.
How will this project solve this problem?
We have a centre that shelters children living on the streets, when children come to the centre, they under go varies programs that help them make informed decisions at the end of the day and to do this we have trained outreach officers who are trained in child care and psychosocial counseling,we also have a designed program that help children change and be ready to go back home to there families. Some of the inputs given to children are one on one counseling, group counseling and psychosocial.
Potential Long Term Impact
The project will help remove and rehabilitate 100 children from the streets(boys and girls)The children will be able to make informed decisions after the project and they will settle with their families.Other children will be placed in projects that offer trade skills, others will go back to school and others will be imparted with business skills so that they start up their own businesses which will help them start responsible lives. The projects also make follow ups when children are refereed.
