REPORT TITLE : CYCLONE THANE VICTIMS TRAINING

REPORT PERIOD: 21.03.12 to 31.03.12

TRAINING ON INSURANCE:

            As we know Cuddalore is the district which is continually affected with the continuous disaster (Tsunami 2004, Nisha 2009 and Thane 2011). In all the three disasters, Cuddalore both Coastal and Agricultural plains have been heavily affected. But it is a  hectic problem, to the central and state Govt. even though it has announced various redemption process generally this vulnerable community have an attitudes that the Govt. would provide us the relief funds. Also they have a myth that their bank loan repayment would be cancelled. Therefore Govt. has a idea to make the community about the awareness necessity for them to have the Insurance polices  for them and the possessions. In a period of lost three years abundance of private Insurance  agencies has arisen. This private companies had announced alterative polices such as dividends / bonus etc. As some Insurance companies   are fraudulent community have almost lost their hope, in private Insurance Companies. To remove the difficulties and to direct the community in a right direction and to motivate them to have the Insurance with the rightly chosen companies, therefore we had the Training on 21.03.2012 at Vellakarai Panchayat (Cuddalore Block) for the farmers. We convened following sessions               :

v     Health and Life Insurance for the individuals.

v     It is a must Insurance for the agricultural crops.

v     Insurance must for cattle / poultry.

v     Insurance for vehicles / Agri. equipments / Harvesting instruments etc.

This training was presided over by the Vellakarai Panchayat president, Advocate Krishnasamy. So many Insurance representatives participated in the programme and offered Lecture about various benefits of Insurance.

TRAINING ON RIGHT TO GOVERNEMENT AID:  

            As we know in India, especially Tamilnadu caste system pre dominantly valuable every year. In the cyclone Thane affected District Cuddalore predominant  is Parayar (Scheduled Caste) and Vannyar (Most backward class). Both the communities are comparatively very low educated. So they have the feeling of inferiority always. As they are in the vulnerable communities they don’t know even apply / or claim for any relief, therefore we convened the training programme on 23.03.2012 on Vellakarai for Dhalith / Vannyar with the presidentship of Advocate Krishnasamy and training was taken by Mr.Damotharan – CRS. We taught the under privileged community as follows.

v     The relief from Govt is applicable to all the victims of being                               disaster we made them to realize about that.

v     Cuddalore is a backward district / disaster prone district. So it has special features and providences from Govt. but the community has no knowledge about that.

v     This very sad they even don’t know that it is basic right to get the water, sanitation, road and electrical facilities we trained them also.

v     There is a relief discrimination also prevalently found therefore we motivate them and relevant them that it is basic rights.

v     We offered them, clear understanding about the Govt aids, and the various approaching methods.

v     We also encourage them to get the compensation for the damage incurred by them. 

TRAINING ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT:

               On 24.03.2012 (Saturday) we convened the disaster management training programme at Kondur pancahayat (Cuddalore Block). The local panchayat president        M/s Gomathi inaugurated this training programme. Our global giving aided Project Manager  Mr.Dhamotharan taught various methods of disaster management training. As delivered  the key points as follows:

v     Types and  Definition of Disaster.

v     Natural and man made disaster.

v     Various precautionary measures (preparedness) 

v     Formation / strengthening of Disaster Management communities.

v     Various services of committee as a bridge between Govt. various Donors and local    resource mobilizes / corporates.

v     With the help of Disaster Management committee PRA was conducted with the participation of vulnerable community.

v     Through where the community will get the entire knowledge of resources, and they themselves would plan and serve for that accordingly.

v     Then only they have the knowledge to duly the vulnerable community / hot spots.

v     Evacuation plan / safe route / alternative route was prepared by themselves.

v     We taught them various methods of First aid and methods of redemption.

v     We taught also about protect the community from fire injury / by covering much wool. We had demonstration clan also practically.

v     Also it was trained, how he rescue the community who were heavily injured thro earthquake, or cyclone.

v     It was also stressed that the protector must know how to gave himself also.
