Quarterly Report on Rehabilitation of People with Disability

Dear Donors, Friends and Well-wishers of The Association of People with  Disability (APD).

We are glad to submit to you the quarterly report of our project on Rehabilitation of People with Disability

Thanks to Global Giving community for your generous support for conducting various structured training programs for Government Workers (like VRW,MRW, PDO, IERT, ASHA workers, mainstream school teachers, parents group & Disabled youths) to enhance their skills and knowledge towards rehabilitation of people with disability.

Project Need :- The district of Bijapur in Karnataka is relatively underdeveloped and has 50,000 people with disability as per 2011 census. The main supports they require are in Education, Healthcare & Therapy and Mobility Aids. Once these are given consistently there is a good chance for them to be productive and financially independent. It is quite a massive number for APD to address with its limited financial and human resource. Whereas the largest institution there which is the Government  has both financial resource (since 3% of its budget is allocated on disability work) and manpower. Hence APD, after various dialogue with different levels in Government, has launched a structured training program on 2nd October 2013

Project Goal:- In Year 1, APD intends to train/educate 700 stakeholders in the space of disability which will impact over 7000 people with disability in terms of education and healthcare. Through this project APD has taken a target to impact 25,000 people with disability in three years which is roughly 50% of disabled population in the district.

The unique feature in this project is use of advanced Information & Communication Technology (ICT). It is a big challenge to get professional and qualified trainers in Bijpaur. It is also impracticable to bring  People with Disability, Government Staff and other stakeholders from Bijapur to Bangalore for educating/training. Hence APD has set up a well equipped digital studio in Bangalore which will be the hub and teachers/faculty will conduct structured sessions here along with practical demonstrations, wherever required. There is a  receiving classroom/studio in Bijapur where candidates are attending. The sessions are transmitted live through technology and it is interactive.
