Promoting Rural Energy Sources

By a female, 22-30 years old, in Kitale, Kenya
Map of PROMOTING RURAL ENERGY SOURCES A few years ago, in my rural home Kitale-kiminini, an american organisation promoted rural electrification and my grandparents home was among the first homes that benefited. The community members were asked to become members to a project named ANGAZA. The members were asked to pay 6000 to obtain gas cylinders, workers and light bulbs for the project. After the members had been given all the tools/equipment for the project, they were charged a small fee to refill the gas cylinders. They used them for cooking and lighting homes. The members were then asked to pay sh 300 yearly for the continuity of the project but later the project started diminishing especially in the use of the light bulb as most homes got electricity from Kenya power and lightning company. The remaining continuing part of the project is the use of the gas for cooking , as most members still have the cylinders that they usually refill at the projects station that is built in the community for easy access to the members. By a female, 16-21 years old, in Nairobi/starehe, Kenya
Map of "KIKULACHO' Kenya attained its independence in the year 1963 and in 1964 it became a republic. By that time the then president Mzee Jommo Kenyatta had three goals to eradicate, poverty, illiteracy and in Kenya. He came into power and things worsened, there were massive killing and numerous cases of land grabbing. Then came in Moi, by then millions of citizens land had been grabbed and he controlled the judicial system such that his corrupt ways could not be unveiled to the country, politicians and citizens were assigned, the media was controlled such that they did not have the freedom to express their views. And corruption cases were unassive. But Kenya slowly developed and we could hear things like constitution, people being educated, the emergence of the constitution and what have you. Transparency interaction has taken the initiative to educate the Kenyans in their rights, on their constitution, where we have come from and most importantly where we are headed to. Its walking in the community advicing people to choose leaders wisely, leaders that can bring development to people. And they are doing all this by showing them a film called 'KIKULACHO' weaning the bite within. Read more.

Map of REDUCED SUPPLY OF CONDOMS The Kenyan Government in the recent years supported by unicef have been receiving condoms which they have been giving to people free of charge. The intriguing thing happened when residents in samburu were found not to be having condoms and the dispenses were empty. They claim they have been empty for only a year and the only thing that has remain for them to use is plastic bags or re-use or even share the condoms. This is a health threat to the the people living in this area since the rate of Hiv/Aids infection will increase in minimal festivals are held a tleast every week where most of the people get involved in sexual behaviour carelessly. The people in the area after being asked some questions by a local T.v station said that the supply of condoms has not been consistence and people are at risk. It came to my knowledge that some people do not know anything like a condom more so the old folks who still use their old pollythin. Read more.
