Hello REBUILD Supporter!
We’d like to take the chance today to introduce you to one of the most impressive and inspiring members of the REBUILD globally family, Omel. His determination and dedication make him an extremely valuable artisan, and his story is a testament to his strength and perseverance.
Tragically, Omel’s parents passed away when he was a teenager. He and his brother, Donald, have supported each other since, but there were often periods of unemployment and no longevity within their jobs. To make matters even more difficult, Omel’s birth certificate was lost in the earthquake, and renewals in Haiti require a substantial fee and several documents proving residency. Omel, not being able to fulfill those requirements, had been living in fear of arrest for being caught without a birth certificate.
Because of his salary at REBUILD, Omel was able to renew his birth certificate last year and now has much more freedom of mobility. He says he has enough money to comfortably support himself, and that when he was offered the job with RG, “God opened a door.” He had been searching for a real livelihood for himself and his brother for over ten years, and now he has finally found it.
In addition to his work, Omel is also an RG apprentice. This means that Omel successfully juggles a full time job, school, weekly tutoring sessions, and four hours of courses on Saturdays. Omel has overcome so many obstacles in his life, and everyone in the REBUILD team is confident that he will succeed in anything he decides to do. RG is truly lucky to have Omel as one of our artisans.
It is because of donors like you that we are able to keep Omel on staff, and he can continue to work to reach his dreams. At REBUILD globally, your donation not only changes lives of individuals it changes their futures. Thank you for your generous support.
