Addiction Is Captivating

By a male, under 16 years old, in Kakamega, Kenya
Map of ADDICTION IS CAPTIVATING My name is Edward Kooma. I lost both my parents in the early years of 2000 (2000-2003). I had a rough time even when I was taken up by my grandmother to live with. It was difficult to get the basic needs which led to my running to the streets in Kakamega town in 2005. Although this life was too hard as well, but with time I adjusted after finding friends (my peers) with whom we socialized and could do much together. In 2006 a social worker from WEAEP came and talked to me, counselled with me then took me to their centre. I received care and encouragement and basic needs like food and accommodation. It was however challenging to cope with the younger, cleaner children who were there, so I found myself the odd one out. There was no freedom, so I ran back to the streets. I desire to get into school to learn, but I find no one to support me. If I get a sponsor, I can work hard to achieve my dream in life. Read more.

Hope Came At The Very Right Time(of Need)

By a female, 46-60 years old , in Kakamega, Kenya
Map of HOPE CAME AT THE VERY RIGHT TIME(OF NEED) My name is Margaret Mweretsi. I am the mother of Josephine Imesi and I must honestly confess that God has been very kind enough in our time of trouble to remember us through CHES in assisting her to acquire education to form 4 last year. The marks of 2003 of the departure of my children's father and the attack on Josephine with her blindness really took us bottom bound. We were gathered back when by the act of kindness, this organization supported the treatment of the girl and also gave her a chance to continue with her education up to Form 4. She may have been abandoned after Form 4, but the contribution of CHES into her life leaves a formidable ground upon which her life rests. God whom we pray, and also who brought in CHES might touch someone on a Global level to help her into college which is the crucial need at hand. Read more.

Neighbourhood Murder.

By a female, 16-21 years old, in Nrb, Kenya
Map of NEIGHBOURHOOD MURDER. Back in the old days life was not that easy. Meaning you had to work hard in order to achieve what you get. At those times dad was very keen and strict. He never misused his money that carelessly he was very observant. We lived at a big plot where we share toilet and bathroom with several people. Infact back in those day even to get electricity at your house was a very big issue. We used to have problem because tenants used not to pay their bills much less for electricity. So our plot was ever dark. It was located at a very narrow path and without forgetting robbers used to pass there. So one time at night as usual we were making stories. Then a vehicle passed our gate so fast, that I saw was I white car. Before minutes could pass the next thing we went to see whats up. A man had been robbed by thieves and then killed. He was shot at the back of his head. The robbers had stolen his vehicle leaving him half dead and later dieing. Yes in deed we lacked security at our place. We tried to help but it was too late and that path continued to be dangerous so we had to do something to stop all those. People decided to block the path so that this there could be no path anywhere. But to be honest it was very difficult to understand. Read more.

Soko Posta

By a female, 46-60 years old , in Busia, Kenya
Map of SOKO POSTA The Busia market commonly known as Soko Posta in my community was a market full of vibandas and busy areas where people ran to in order to help themselves. For a long time that is decades and decades the market was described as a market of vibandas and kiosks. From an angle of observation be it aerial, horizontal or vertical there was no doubt that the vibandas were really ugly and they made the market place look so weird and ugly. Years late around 2006 and 2007 the Municipal council demolished the vibandas and kiosks and started to set up beautiful structures including a modern toilet at the market. Today the soko posta market is absolutely changed with concrete stalls where people operate their businesses from and even store their commodities. Thanks to this changes by the Busia Municipal Council. Read more.

Rain Is Not A Bother

By a female, 22-30 years old, in Makueni, Kenya
Map of RAIN IS NOT A BOTHER It was on sixth of last month this year when we travelled to one of my friends function at her rural areas.we were woken up by the rain at about 3:30am on Tuesday morning which was being driven hard into our tent by the wind.We scrambled first to keep the equipment and then ourselves dry It was naturally the first story on our lips in the morning but my friends laughed and told us that the best way to deal with the rain is to remain in one position .even if still inside the tent.one of my friend said it works all time unless of course you begin to feel as if you are floating.which means you could be swept away by floods but the rain didnot stop our function.
