Summary
Working in the Arab world since 1915, NEF honors its traditions, including the Holy Month of Ramadan-- particularly a time of giving and feeling for the poor--when we distribute food packages.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
According to a Sept. 12 UN report, 3 out of 4 Palestinians now live in poverty, NEF food packages ease burdens of unemployment and rising cost of living for most needy living in our West Bank project area & Gaza during what should be a joyous time together.
How will this project solve this problem?
In cooperation with local Islamic "Zakat" (alms) committees, the most needy are identified & food packages are distributed, again with local people. Food packages each contain about $50 worth of basic foods like dairy products & protein-rich beans.
Potential Long Term Impact
Participating in Ramadan & helping the poor at this particular time helps build a stronger sense of community and mutual responsibility as well as strengthens the bond between local people and those like NEF trying to lend a helping hand.
Project Message
It's particularly important to share with one another during this period. It makes us all feel so much closer together.
