Punarbal Shikshya Sadan is the only school in Nepal that provides quality education to HIV affected children. We affirm that every child, HIV infected or not, has the right to life-changing education.
Over 15,000 Nepali children are HIV positive. In Nepal, HIV infected individuals face intense isolation and discrimination. Because of the social stigma attached to the virus, children with HIV are expelled from public schools and are left without any educational alternative. In most cases, these children come from poor families, have lost one or both parents and lack access to healthy food, medicine or proper clothing. In order to survive, many resort to illegal activities and sex trafficking.
Punarbal Plus offers daily classes to over 300 HIV/AIDS affected children and runs a Care and Support Center that houses 21 children and orphans from remote villages. We also provide vocational training and awareness workshops for parents.
In an environment free from discrimination and stigmatization, 300 of Nepal's HIV affected youth will receive the emotional, medical and educational support that they need to become successful and discerning community leaders.
