The goal of this project is to ensure all children coming to our centre recieve a holistic education. We target children between 6 months -12 years. Little Rock seeks to provide quality education to all its children regardless of their disability. Our staff is trained to handle all types of disabilities. The class environment is child centred, and all the childrens needs are met according to their ability. Currently we have 300 children and of these 80 are special needs children.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

A child born in Kibera usually has very little chance of creating a positive life for themselves. Poverty makes many parents in Kibera to downplay the need of providing an early childhood education to their children. Parents tend to keep their children at home until they reach the entitlement age of free primary education. Those with children who have special needs lock up their children at home even longer because of embarrassment only to find out too late that their children can be helped.

How will this project solve this problem?

Our project is giving many young children a great start in life by giving them an early childhood education. Our holistic inclusive education system is oriented to meet the needs of all children. Instead of fitting the child to the education systems we seek to fit the education system to the child. Mainstreaming our children at such an early age increases acceptance and appreciation of individual differences and thus improves their pathway to formal learning.

Potential Long Term Impact

The project will continue giving many young children a chance for a better life by giving them an education. Education is a powerful tool by which economically and socially marginalized children can lift themselves out of poverty and partipate fully as citizens of the country. With your support we can continue providing the foundation bit of over 300 children's development living in Kibera; Among them at least 80 will be special needs children deaf, autistic, down syndrome, cerebral palsy etc
