Continuining on our effort to reach the poorest, remote and rural marginalised people, NBJK conducted rural remote Village Screening camps for cataract in the remote villages of Dumka district. Around 500 people were screened for cataract in the last 3 months and 50 identified suffering from it. All the beneficiaries who were diagnosed of cataract were brought to the Eye hospital in van and were admitted.
Paku Kisku, 75 years old was one of the patients who was diagnosed of cataract in both eyes. She belongs to a remote village in Jarmundi block. She is a widow and stays with her son. Her son is a daily wage labourer and earns a meagre income to support the family. She was brought to the hospital and was further diagnosed and tested for cataract. She was admitted in the hospital and was successfuly operated for cataract in her right eye with pre and post medication and spectacles on 26th January, 2014.
She can see things clearly now and can walk independently and do household chores. She said "I was suffering from cataract since last 2 years but could not afford the surgery cost. Without the support of donors it was impossible for me to see again. I bless them for their noble efforts".
