Thanks to your generosity we are well on our way to the $11,000 needed for our initial purchase of 20 Classmate PCs as well as for associated computer presentation technology for the computer room in Haiti. In anticipation of the Classmate PCs, volunteer work crews from Pennsylvania and Maryland traveled to Haiti to remodel and paint the computer room (see pictures).
As you may know, in addition to providing technology to students in Haiti, this project creates collaborative peer-to-peer education, cultural, and humanitarian exchanges between students at Les Bons Samaritains School in Haiti and students within the Palmyra, Pennsylvania school district. Lives are being impacted by this project in both countries. I’d like to share the touching story of Tate, one of our Palmyra students. Tate recently celebrated his birthday by asking his friends to donate money to this specific GlobalGIving project in lieu of purchasing gifts. Tate and his friends raised $200 for this project!
The Palmyra students have been busy promoting the Palmyra-Haiti wiki project through both print media and a radio interview. Please check out the links and pictures to see how this project is impacting students.
Through your support, you are helping to provide material tools to connect students from different countries and cultures. These tangible materials are essential for our project but they can’t compare with the intangible experiences that students, like Tate, are gaining through your support. Please help spread the word about our project and the difference we are making in students’ lives.
All the best,
