Summary

We partner with the Adonai Child Development Center, an NGO health center that provides the care and support of a loving family to orphans in Namugoga. The partnership between GlobeMed and Adonai started in the fall of 2012, and together, we will construct two water harvest tanks, build a compostable latrine, and support the construction of the Mission Centre and Guest house. These projects will help the community form a public health perspective from a public education standpoint.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Over 30 million children in Africa have been orphaned by AIDS, and 2.4 million of these children are in Uganda. They face many challenges and need our help to overcome them. In Namugoga, Uganda, many children have to walk miles to simply get clean drinking water. Another issue is that many of the latrines at Adonai are almost full, but a compostable latrine will help with improving sanitation in a sustainable way given that the waste will be recyclable.

How will this project solve this problem?

Lack of clean drinking water or consuming unclean water can be detrimental to health, so a water harvest tank will give the children easy access to clean water. Additionally, having a compostable latrine will help with sanitation and hygiene. As young children, having both access to water and a clean place to live is crucial to their livelihood and growth, so we hope to help them through funding and supporting sustainable projects that directly address these needs.

Potential Long Term Impact

Through this long-term partnership, the creation of structures that continue to improve sanitation (such as the latrine and water tanks) will be sustainable ways to improve health. Moreover, the creation of the Mission Centre and Guest House will allow external experts and GlobeMed students to give advice and feedback to the Adonai Child Development Center.

Project Message

Through sustainable efforts, we hope to help Adonai achieve their mission: to raise responsible, dignified adults from orphans, abandoned, and vulnerable children for God's glory.
