Providing Functional Literacy to women in India (1784)
“VIRMANI TRUST IS WORKING FOR A LIFE OF DIGNITY AND SELF RELIANCE FOR THE DISADVANTAGED
It has been considered and simultaneously proved that literacy has always enhances any region’s human capital. As our Adult Literacy project started in the year 2004 only with five centers and with the help of donated some & computers in a slum cluster around Delhi through computer based functional literacy program (CBFL) developed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). CBFL is animated software which provides basic knowledge of Hindi alphabets and numerals and language for mathematical activities. For this program an educated lady from the related community itself is identified as the person in charge for the cluster and her home serves as the place of classroom for women beneficiaries attending that class. Hence, system provides a suitable space for illiterate women in their own atmosphere and by the local resident of their community.
It is generally accepted that there can be no lasting peace or social development without education. This is the bedrock on which “Dhanpatmal Virmani Education Trust & Management Society” (DVET) has built its priority programme to provide education for all throughout life by their running centers without any cost. In this context, the Organization’s twin focus is to train the teachers/ community members who are central to the education system and to improve education's quality and relevance which will go a long way to reduce drop outs and ensure retention.
At present 128 Adult literacy centers in and around Delhi in which 114 centers are supported by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) are being successfully run by the trust. So far 9244 women, 68 men have studied in these centers and 3700 women are presently studying. Our target is to have 200 centers by end of this financial year.
We have introduced tailoring, mehndi, beauty culture course for women at our selected centers in Delhi, so that the women can learn vocational training and earn some extra income for their families, which will raise their standard of living and self respect in their own family due to their literacy. For this purpose we are also supplying them related books magazines, news paper and other stationary material to the beneficiaries.
Celebration: We celebrated some festivals and other important days during our learning session at all centers as Independency Day, Rakshabandan etc.
I, personally thank you for your continued support which has helped us to carry forward this programme to help the women to evolve further. We simply could not have made such a difference without you. Any contribution however small is very much appreciated for such type of social activities.
We would also like to be in tune with larger outreach efforts so that we become a part of global charitable funding initiatives and plug in mainline organizations that manage these initiatives from across the world. We are looking for contribution for all these efforts and would be grateful for your support to enable us to carry them forward. We express our gratitude to the donors for making change in the society.
We envisioned expanding our centers, so that illiteracy from India is eradicated.

We thank you for your cooperation & donation.
