Providing Functional Literacy to women in India (1784),                      Date: 15-12-2011

It has been considered and simultaneously proved that literacy has always enhances the  regions and human capital. Our Adult Literacy project started in 2004 with five centers with  old donated computers in a slum cluster around Delhi through computer based functional literacy program (CBFL) developed by TCS. CBFL is animated software which provides basic knowledge of alphabets, numerals and language. An educated lady from the community itself is identified as the person in charge for the cluster and her home serves as the classroom for women beneficiaries.

There can be no lasting peace or social development without education. This is the bedrock on which DVET has built its priority programme to provide education for all throughout life. In this context, the Organization’s twin focus is to train the teachers and community members who are central to the education system to improve education's quality and relevance which will go a long way to reduce drop outs and ensure retention.                                                                     .

At present there are 52 Adult literacy centers in and around Delhi are being successfully run by the trust. So far 6244 women, 68 men and 733 children have studied in these centers and 1000 women and 120 adolescent are presently studying. Our target is to have 60 centers by the end of this financial year.

We have introduced vocational courses for skill development like Tailoring, Mehndi, Beauty culture course for women at our selected centers in NCT Delhi, so that the women can learn vocation training and earn some extra income for their families, which will raise their living standard. We are also providing books magazines and news paper to the beneficiaries.

Celebration: We celebrated all the festivals and other important days like world literacy day, Teachers Day, Women’s Day etc at our learning centers.

I personally thank you for your continued support which has helped us to carry forward this programme to help the women to improve their quality of life.  We simply could not have made such a difference without you. Any contribution however small is very much appreciated.

We would also like to be in tune with larger outreach efforts so that we become a part of global charitable funding initiatives and plug in mainline organizations that manage these initiatives from across the world. We are looking for contribution for all these efforts and would be grateful for your support to enable us to carry them forward. We express our gratitude to the donors for making change in the society.
