With help from our Donors Alai, her children and the mother have food on table with a place to stay.
On 08- Feb - 2011 president Omer al-Bashir, issued a republican decree accepting the final results of referendum, which supports the separation of the South into an independent state. North and South Sudan are presently engaged in talks to resolve the sensitive issues, which includes sharing of oil revenues, demarcation of boarders, and the contested oil-rich Abyei region. Sudan will not be the same after July 9 2011.
Things will not be the same for Alai, and her family again - they are very optimistic. Alai was married away at pre-mature age. To her dismay they divorced when she committed to the marriage for life. She was torn apart and cannot stand the shock. Due to poverty she cannot provide the basic needs to her family by then. And in northern Sudan a divorced woman like her is regarded a prostitute and not a trustworthy person. In sharia-law she can re-marry, or get child support neither from the Authority nor from her ex-man. If she sues her ex-husband for child support it will not help. She was condemned and left alone to suffer. Alai had no options but to take away her life – but luckily enough Hope Ofiriha came in the right time and rescued.
With the funding from GlobalGiving donors the lives of Alai, her family has changed. Presently Alai is about to graduate from a business training. After she will start the income generating business. The aim is to give them with monthly incomes so she can provide for their basic needs, and to pay the children’s school fees after the funding period is over. She could have completed the training but was delayed because her private trainer was outside Khartoum for two months. Alai is very motivated and is working hard so that she and her family will not suffer again. Her life experiences are her ticket out of poverty.
