Summary
Send students back to school with clean water. This project will provide funding to dig two wells at schools in Western Kenya. Each well will serve up to 1,000 students and the surrounding community.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Students walk up to 7km to fetch their water for the day. And these very water sources are unclean and unsafe. The time wasted traveling to gather water can be better spent in class. Easy access to clean water reduces water-borne disease and keeps kids in class.
The lack of clean water disproportionately effects girls, as they are often the ones tasked with gathering water. Lack of water for proper hygiene also keeps girls away. Clean water profoundly changes the lives of children.
How will this project solve this problem?
Our local partner mobilizes the community around the school and establishes a water committee to oversee the project. The communities makes tangible investments into the water project further ensuring long-term sustainability. Then they dig.
Potential Long Term Impact
Access to clean water reduces disease, improves education, empowers women by returning them to more meaningful work and unburdens entire communities, helping them to break the cycle of poverty. Water changes everything.
Project Message
"The project was wonderful, the people in the Villages are so happy, the pupils has water and the people in the Villages around. There is no more fighting over the water source."
