The rainy season has begun in Haiti, imperiling hundreds of thousands of homeless, with tropical storms soon on the way. Help CHF International build safe, sanitary shelters for the people of Haiti.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
1.3 million people in Haiti were made homeless by the January 12 earthquake. The majority are living in tents or ad hoc shelters. The rainy season and tropical storm season could cause flash floods and overwhelm drainage canals, causing drowning, destruction and rampant disease.
How will this project solve this problem?
Currently the living conditions of earthquake affected Haitians do not protect them from these dangers. CHF International, world experts in transitional shelter, is building thousands of safe, sanitary shelters in safe locations.
Potential Long Term Impact
Immediate impact is thousands of deaths averted, rampant disease averted. But we also employ Haitians in building their shelters so they learn how to build earthquake and climate resistant structures built to international standards.
