SUSTAIN:GREEN Partnership and Bonus Offer!

Earlier this year we announced Sustain:Green as a corporate partner in the Mata no Peito initiative. Sustain:Green recently launched the Sustain:Green MasterCard, a biodegradable credit card that will offset for all card purchases through retirement of Nike offsets to benefit Mata no Peito.

Sustain:Green cardholders will have the unique opportunity to not only reduce their carbon footprint as they make everyday purchases, but will also be funding investments in Brazil forestry projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve livelihoods. In January 2015, Sustain:Green anticipates adding a prepaid card, with the same offset feature.

To celebrate the launch, Sustain:Green is offering a special bonus: For each new MasterCard issued and activated, Sustain:Green will retire 5,000 pounds of CO2, and if you use the referral code “ACR” an additional 5,000 pounds of CO2 will be retired for a total of 10,000 pounds per new card to benefit Mata no Peito. There’s no annual fee, so sign up now to get the Sustain:Green MasterCard at www.sustaingreen.com. I’ve made the commitment and hope you will too!

We thank Sustain:Green and other partners along with individuals and corporations for their continued generous support. To date we have raised over $40,000 from donors, who via retirement of carbon credits to offset their carbon footprints have removed 20 million pounds of CO2 from the atmosphere – the equivalent of taking 1,785, cars off the road for a year! All funds raised will be pooled to provide funding to projects that protect and replant forests in Brazil - improving livelihoods within forest-based communities.

Mata no Peito Forestry Fund: Summer 2014 Update

With the excitement winding down from a summer of World Cup soccer, hosted in cities throughout Brazil, the next opportunity for the country to showcase its world-renowned natural beauty will be in 2016, when Rio de Janeiro will host the Summer Olympics.

Brazil is home to over half of the planet’s forests, including the Amazon and the Atlantic Rainforest. Each year an area equivalent to three million soccer fields is deforested or degraded in Brazil due to logging, or conversion to cropland or grazing land.

Nike, together with Winrock, seeks to bring together a visionary team of partners in the Mata no Peito initiative to raise awareness and funds for joint action to protect and replant forests throughout Brazil. To date, with support from donations via Global Giving, we have raised more than $40,000 and removed over 19 million pounds of CO2 from the atmosphere via retirement of carbon credits to offset their carbon footprints – equivalent to taking 1,785 cars off the road for a year.

On behalf of Nike and Mata no Peito, we thank you for your generous support. Donations are pooled to seed the Mata no Peito Fund, which will provide investments in select innovated forestry projects throughout Brazil.

Mata no Peito Forest Fund Update

Nike, together with Winrock, seeks to bring together a committed and visionary team of partners in the Mata no Peito Initiative to raise funding and awareness for the strength of joint actions to protect and replant forests throughout Brazil.

Mata no Peito’s partnership with Sustain:Green (www.sustaingreen.com) is scheduled to go live late this summer with the introduction of biodegradable credit cards and prepaid cards which reduce the cardholder’s carbon footprint while providing funding to the Mata No Peito initiative. For every $1 in net purchases, Sustain:Green will offset 2 pounds of CO2e, with all of the proceeds from the purchase of the offsets going to Mata No Peito. Use the Sustain:Green cards for everyday purchases and make a difference everyday. To be one of the first to get one of these unique cards, or if you are a business or non-profit wanting to learn more about how partnering with Sustain:Green can help you as well as the planet, contact Sustain:Green at info@sustaingreen.com.

To date, individual and corporate donors have partnered with the Mata no Peito Initiative, raising $40,000 and removing over 19 million pounds of CO2 from the atmosphere via retirement of carbon credits to offset their carbon footprints – equivalent to taking 1,780 cars off the road for a year. All donations will be pooled to seed the Mata no Peito Fund, which will provide investments in selected innovative forestry projects throughout Brazil. We remain eager to confirm additional Mata no Peito coalition partners to help raise awareness of the importance of forests to address climate change, sustainable livelihoods and biodiversity.
