One of United for Colombia’s Beneficiary

She is Emilcen (watch video attached), a 19-year-old young girl, who lost her left leg below the knee due to a grenade accident. Her accident occurred when she was only 10 years old, at her hometown of Pisba, Boyacá, approximately two hours from Bogotá (Colombian Capital). Her younger brother, Ferney, found a grenade and brought it home, thinking it was a toy. The grenade exploded and killed three of her family members, including her father, younger brother (Ferney) and her sister.

For six years, United for Colombia has supported Emilcen’s prosthetic medical care treatment. This month, Emilcen returned for the sixth time to Otto Bock, a prosthetic rehabilitation center in Bogotá, to get her prosthetic leg re-adjusted. She has received numerous physical therapy sessions and professional psychological care to regain full wellness and health. However, United for Colombia is looking for additional funders to keep supporting Emilcen’s full rehabilitation.

Today, she is working to support her mother. Her dream is to become a Prosthetic Technician to help many people who need prosthesis; especially children, Colombia’s most vulnerable people as a result of the devastating effects of the war against drugs and terrorism.

“Thanks to God I had the opportunity to walk again…and smile again”, says Emilcen.

Together we can help other children, just like Emilcen, and give them the possibility to smile again...
