Deepthi aged 19 years was brought to Freedom Foundation by her maternal uncle in the year 2000. She was 6 years old then and needless to say had lost both parents to AIDS. The stigma & discrimination coupled with the responsibility of raising a girl child prompted the extended family to place her in an institution. Looking back we at Freedom Foundation are happy that we took Deepti in cause as of writing this report we are overjoyed to say that she has launched out on her own.
She completed her tenth standard and joined a Balawadi Teacher's training, worked as a teaching assistant for 6 months and soon realized that the scope for further growth was limited. Since she had no further interest to pursue her studies she was guided to enroll in a VET course (Vocational Education Training).
She joined UNNATHI on 15th Sep 2012 for training (70 days) on professional course in ‘Retail Sales & Marketing’. After the training she attended few interviews and opted to work in a hotel under Food & Beverage Service Department. She is working here since Dec 2012 and is quite happy with her job.
She was finding very difficult to travel from the centre to work place as she has to report to work by 7.30 am. When she shared her difficulty with us, we encouraged her to stay in a working women’s hostel close to her work place. She being a smart girl understood the situation and found a good hostel near to her work place. FF helped in getting her admitted in the hostel on 1st March 2013.
We wish her the very best and have assured her that we will be there for her!
