Summary

This project will build literacy skills between children in Haiti and America. G.O.A.L will provide a rich supply of materials (tables, chairs & books) to orphans devastated by the earthquake in Haiti. Books will be read by our members to the orphans in Haiti via Skype. Children in Haiti will also practice reading the same book with their American reading buddy. After completing a certain number of books, each child will be given a certificate of program completion & promoted to Pen Pal status.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

There are currently thousands of orphans in Haiti in desperate need of our help since the earthquake devastation only two years ago. One of our members noticed the desperation for herself while on the border of the Dominican Republic and Haiti during her alternative spring break volunteer trip. We have connected with Compassion Services international and we hope you can help us bring enrichment to the lives of orphans in desperate need in Haiti. Together, we can make a difference!

How will this project solve this problem?

G.O.A.L. provides materials and literacy support to illiterate orphans who will have the opportunity to strengthen their literacy and language skills through reading. Positive, uplifting relationships will be established between orphans and our children through this educational platform. The beginning of restoration and hope for all people involved.

Potential Long Term Impact

We will help to educate orphans allowing them to realize their full potential, rise out of poverty, which will provide for their families' health and well-being.
