One Child plants One Tree.Planting trees is one simple act. every child can do it. Through the Green School Campaign, we want to inspire children to continue to have a positive impact on their local environment by showing them how they can make a difference. by learning to take responsibility for the tree they planted as it grows and becoming more aware of the disposal of trash in their schools and communities, these children will learn to be more responsible and environmentally conscious
Nepal is a small country with a population of 23.1 million (2001 census) with four out of ten people living below the poverty line. The majority of the population lives in rural areas and relies on agriculture for their livelihoods. A harsh physical environment and limited productive land result in many people having to rely of limited and poorly managed natural resources with a low level of opportunity outside traditional agriculture.
ECI Nepal seeks to provide opportunity for improved environmental, health and social conditions through tree planting and more sustainable land management, with children, and especially girls, at the center of the solution. Tree planting has been identified as an important and viable solution for more sustainable land management in Nepal and ECI Nepal seeks to empower children and young people in their schools to take an active role in caring for their local land and environment.
The project intends to achieve sustainable behavior change, coupled with incremental environmental improvement within the districts served by this project. Evidence gathered through this phase of development will inform a further scale-up and expansion of the project, leading to sustainable model for growth and opportunity for the children of Nepal.
