Peruvian Promise aims to unlock the potential of 16 young women to become leaders of their families, communities and country through the power of education, mentorship and service to others. Peruvian Hearts will provide these girls with scholarships and increased educational opportunities and while working to develop their sense of personal empowerment. Mentors will work bi-weekly with the girls and their families to ensure the families' ongoing support and advocacy for their girl's education.
Girls and women in Peru are extremely undervalued and families often do not encourage or allow girls to continue beyond a secondary school education. Many girls with limited education in Peru have early and unwanted pregnancies and are more likely to develop problems with drugs and alcohol. These girls lack the education and tools they need to break the cycle of poverty and change the future for them and their families.
Through the use of a research based self-empowerment program for girls, combined with enhanced educational opportunities and working with families to develop a greater understanding of the importance of girls’ education, Peruvian Promise will unlock the potential of young women to become leaders of their families, communities and country through the power of education, mentorship and service to others. Peruvian Promise will enable girls to lift themselves up and break the cycle of poverty.
Peruvian Promise will give young girls the educational opportunities and tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty and become leaders of their families, communities and country. Combining family support, greater educational opportunities, and mentorship, will transform girls' lives to enable them to reach their full potential. Peruvian Promise is a pilot program, which we plan to replicate in order to change the lives of other young women in Peru.
This is a very important program. It is very necessary because it will allow girls to be well educated, and that in turn, will give them greater opportunitites in the future.
