We do have families waiting for the gift of a cycle rickshaw lets hope soon we will be able to donate our first one!
We work in very poor areas in some of the poorest areas of all India, a simple thing like a cycle rickshaw can bring in income which can make all the difference to a BPL ( below the poverty line) family.
Our last report showed the first family awaiting a rickshaw, here's what Parmilla Devi mother of four children said to us,
" We are simple daily labourers and we earn if we can find work about 100 Rupees a day ( about 2 US dollars). "My husband and eldest son would really appreciate the chance to earn some extra money from a cycle rickshaw" It is possible especially on market days to earn 250 to 300 rupees
on that day alone, a big extra help to us. "We do not own any land and cannot get loans so please help us"
It should be also mentioned the Trust will provide training with Basic English and help with Insurance for the new rickshaw owners. Families have been carefully selected by our teachers who are members of the local communities and vetted by our staff as those most in need and able to benefit from this new opportunity to earn. We have five families waiting.
GlobalGiving is matching donations on October 17th, a good day to give!
We would reach out to clubs or groups families, or maybe classes in schools to raise funds to buy one cycle rickshaw to help a family below the poverty line raise funds for themselves and improve their lives.
We would be happy to paint it in your schools or organisations colours and paint a donated by message. Its $250 to buy one!!
So, hopefully we can get going!
