The Peace School is a model school for post-conflict societies around the world. The goals of this project are to contribute to healing and reconciliation in this post-conflict, but still caste-based, society. The Sarswati Peace School will play a vital role in re-establishing a sense of normalcy in the lives of children, fundamental to their healing and reintegration process.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Nepal's civil war (1996-2006) left an overwhelming number of children physically and psychologically scarred, and deprived them of their basic rights to learn. The Peace School will play a vital role in re-establishing a sense of normalcy in the lives of children, fundamental to their healing and reintegration process. The project aims to foster social equality and community reconciliation through the children's positive experiences.
How will this project solve this problem?
Peace School is an English medium school that does not follow a set of prescribed curriculum. Our curriculum includes documenting personal narratives in writing, film making and photography. Our strategies for success in local environments embrace investigation of hidden resources, basic small business principles and stories to inspire and guide. The annual storytelling & experience sharing celebration for school children can feature their work for local communities.
Potential Long Term Impact
With new found friends and a welcoming school environment, the young children will be motivated to attend school, think freely, and build friendships across caste lines. To develop an interactive educational system, which creates realistic perspectives on life while honoring personal narratives & experiences for all children
