During this period the Mi Sangre Foundation worked with children, teachers and their families in the development of life skills and citizenship, with the aim of building peace communities. The Foundation worked with over 30 public schools, over 2,000 children, over 100 parents, over 12 youth leaders, and over 30 teachers.
Through this process the Mi Sangre team carried out activities and processes to build safe environments for children in vulnerable communities with the aim of creating the conditions for safe spaces that allow children and adolescents to live their rights as citizens and experience a deep participation in the building of peaceful societies.
In order to do this we carried out 4 lines of action:
These lines of action were achieved through workshops with an emphasis on team work, coexistence and citizenship, life skills such as empathy, peaceful resolution of conflict, self-understanding, decision making, creative and critical thinking. Workshops with parents were also held to raise awareness around good child-raising practices.
Using tools such as graffiti, puppets, games and artistic activities the community was empowered to care not just for themselves and their families, but for the world that surrounds them.

The Mi Sangre Foundation accompanies the "Loco de Amor " tour made by the founder Juan Esteban Aristizabal (Juanes) in the cities of Monteria, Pasto, Pereira, Valledupar and Ibagué, adding the social component one day before the concert, through two moments: a meeting with 60 young people from youth groups related to art and social leadership, and an ensemble of musicians regions have a folk touch.
The first meeting to be held in the morning, is intended that young attendees being selected by local governments, have an experiential approach to the role of art and culture in social transformation. These workshops are based on the methodology Pazalobien proposed the Education for Peace of Mi Sangre, seek to encourage the development of creativity, participation, affection and rights perspective, allowing them to be recognized as peacemakers and citizens.
The meeting ends with the panel " Los Jóvenes Locos de amor por el arte y la paz " in which the Colombian singer Juanes, a member of the group Son Bata, a young participant of the projects of Mi Sangre and Catalina Cock, director of the Foundation, with these leaders share their experience and vision about the role they are taking on young people as drivers of change in their communities through cultural tools.
Place for Music and folklore
The second moment of this proposal includes an ensemble of young musicians between regions, Juanes and his band members, interact with them and made the adjustment to the track, Odio por Amor, from a folkloric rhythm of the area.
The idea of Mi Sangre to participate in the tour of its founder is with the purpose of motivating young Colombians to become "Leaders of Change": develop skills of innovation, creativity, participation and social entrepreneurship, as tools that will allow to generate change actions and positive impact in their communities.
For 8 years Mi Sangre has co-created in 34 municipalities protective environments for more than 68,000 children and young people to discover and exercise their powers as peacemakers.
"The situation now is not the best, but we must put the good, so we are working to change a little, so that children are quiet now on."
Juan David Garcia, commune 13, Medellin.
Juda, as known to his friends, is 23 years old. Much of his life has been spent in the neighborhood Eduardo Santos, he lives there with his father and mother, his two brothers, and the mother of his three year old daughter Ana Sofia, his greatest hope.
Judah's family is big, he is loved and recognized by a beautiful combo, his friends have become brothers, "the moms of my friends become friends of mine" He was born in Pereira, his parents came to Medellin seeking better opportunities, they made Medellin their home, and now he feels more “paisa” than anyone.
Judah was not the best academically in school, he preferred to do hip hop, but life gave him a second chance, he repeated eleventh grade and graduated with honors, and giving deep happiness to his father and mother, placed second in the ICFES of his school.
Since he was in school he had contact with the world of hip hop, this for many young people in Medellín has become an oasis of hope. Studying met Hector, aka Kolacho, the friend who introduced him to rap.
Kolacho founded C15, a renowned hip hop group from Medellín to which Juda was invited to participate. C15 has crossed borders and has made hundreds of people singi in unison with his renowned song AQUÍ SÍ HAY AMOR. Unfortunately Kolacho was killed in 2009 in the commune 13, a young man died, a victim, an innocent person, a leader who sought to sow love. But his teammates were filled with strength and today they are still touching hearts, opening doors and dreaming of a better world.
Right when Hector is killed his teammates are filled with creative magic and continue brewing a dream of autonomy and freedom "we continue telling our neighborhood, telling that all is not so bad, but we also prefer proposals over denounce"
This leader with his musical group C15 is part of the Hip Hop Network La Elite, who organized one of the largest Festivals of Hip Hop in Latin America, Revolución sin muertos, and also includes 14 groups of hip hop and a seed (which are more than 90 children from commune 13 in the 4 elements of hip hop) called Kolacho, steps that are not in vain, created in honor of his friend and brother, Hector.
"To me community work changed my life, I started making hip hop and then, with a lot of magic and love, I began to share my work with children in my neighborhood. These guys taught us to see with new eyes, they showed us that behind this stigmatized community there was hope"
Pasos que no son en vano,s Kolacho’s school has been an immense and invaluable opportunity to grow for Juda, also to share and learn "you think you will end up learning and a little kid teaches you"
"The rap awakes youth and children, brings different emotions and ways of seeing reality, this is an artistic experience that not only robs young people from war but it excite their mind and perceptions. It started as a creative impulse with which one seeks to express and then gradually becomes a media that has what no one else has, that says what nobody dares to say, especially proposes new horizons and becomes a loudspeaker, the voice of the people "
Being part of change is essential for Juda, he cannot sit still watching the world, he is a peacemaker who believes in the transformation and knows there are many things you can do to contribute to peace.
"From an early age I began to get involved with the music, with which I created a protective shield against violence, no one approached me to tell me anything, I do not have friends involved in wars and that makes me feel free"
For Juda peace is something that you feel "inside and outside", that children can grow up with love and hope, that happiness abound in the hearts, the dreams that come together, and above all, that we can look at each other into the eyes as equals.
"If I could have the opportunity to meet young people who vacillate between war and life my experiment would be simple: take that person to a wall, put a rap song and gave him a spray to paint and dance, to feel the freedom to go through their senses and between laughter and laughter I would express with examples how a bad choice will last one or two years, you might be able to get a lot of money but will not enjoy, and how art fills one with feelings and ultimately can saves us "
