This project aims to, through a methodology based around art and play, transform children into active citizens who have life skills which will enable them to build a peaceful world.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Colombias children suffer in the face of the countrys situation of poverty, inequality and violence caused by the armed conflict. The Colombian school system is one of the armed conflicts victims. Classrooms are often overcrowded sometimes with up to 50 children per teacher. The violence of the streets is reflected in the violent environment brought into the school. Teachers lack training in more creative pedagogical techniques and often lack supplies in the classrooms.
How will this project solve this problem?
Through the Pazalobien methodology the Mi Sangre Foundation strengthens the citizenship and life skills of children in public schools in high risk areas of Colombia. Working from a rights-based approach, children benefit through living an experience of participation and creativity. The project transforms attitudes not just of the children participants but of the teachers, the school system and families, building a peace culture within their communities.
Potential Long Term Impact
The project will have a large-scale social impact by reaching 2000 children, 75 teachers, and 100 parents, who as a result of the project, will be able to exercise active citizenship. The project will also result in the creation of safer environments for children through an ecosystem of supportive carers in 6 - 8 of the citys neighborhoods.
