This project will generate income for over 100 women with HIV/AIDS in Uganda, and produce paper for Memory Books to help their children both understand and cope with the effects of HIV/AIDS.
Women living with AIDS in Africa face many difficulties, from generating a steady income to planning an uncertain future for their families—even to communicating with their families given the stigma of AIDS. This project, in giving skills for paper-making to 10 NACWOLA members who will train women in their own communities, will provide much-needed income. The paper will create Memory Books, which help children cope with losing a parent, and educate them on AIDS and its effects.
We will be providing resources and assistance for the training of 10 NACWOLA women and establishment of the business. Additionally, documentation of the training process will allow for future expansion and marketing materials for scaling up.
This project can reach thousands of women within the 60,000+ NACWOLA network by providing skills, jobs, and support of their families through Memory Books. Both the organization and the industry will continue to expand and impact families in Africa.
